Interested in a straight, simple workout? Wanting to get in shape or stay in shape? Simply want to just blow some stress off while hitting something? This is the class for you! A conditioning class based on kickboxing, this class utilizes plyometric and isometric exercises, in addition to light weight training. Unlike some other programs out there, 5 Elements fitness kickboxing classes utilizes punching bags to provide some resistance training and provide that additional “oomph” to your workout.
All students participating in Fitness Kickboxing classes must have a 5 Elements tshirt, boxing gloves and handwraps. Shin pads are recommended.
The karate program at 5 Elements is Shotokan karate, a system of self defense from a standing position with an emphasis on hand blocks and strikes . The 5 Elements Martial Arts offers a well-rounded curriculum that can be used as a solid base for practicing martial arts, while providing a fun way to keep fit and enjoy exercising!

The 5 Elements Martial Arts Little Dragons class is designed for preschoolers (ages 3-approx. 6.) It is an unparented class that serves as the perfect introduction to the world of martial arts. Students will learn basic exercises and stretching techniques, while being taught the fundamentals of Karate and Tae Kwon Do. Students will learn through karate games, obstacle courses, and light and supervised point sparring and self defence. Students will also learn basic Japanese words and phrases.
No experience necessary! Students must be able to use the washroom by themselves in order to be left alone for this class.
Intended for children between ages 7-12. For those who are a little older, this class is also a great introductory class for those just starting out. Students will be engaged in basic conditioning and exercises, learn fundamental aspects of Karate,engage in some light contact sparring and self defence/anti-bullying training. Some games and other activities are also a part of the program. This class is designed to cover the first three belt levels of curriculum.
All Ages Karate is open to all students in the Youth and Adult programs at 5 Elements, geared particularly towards families looking to train together! This program is similar to our Children’s and Little Dragons programs, serving as an introductory level class for new students of all ages. More experienced students are also welcome to help them hone and develop their fundamental skills. Basic exercises and stretching will be included as part of warm up and students will learn the same fundamentals in the Children’s and Little Dragons classes. Covers the first three belt levels of curriculum.
Intended for students of higher belt levels, ages 12-Adult. Students can begin participating in Intermediate/Advanced Karate classes once they have received their green belts. These classes develop upon the fundamentals taught in the Beginner Classes and teach more advanced techniques.
Designed for blue belts and higher (or by invitation), this class delves in to the application of various karate techniques and how they can be used in different situations. Advanced forms and techniques will also be practiced to help participants continue on their karate journey.
Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a culmination of all combat sports including martial arts put into one specific fighting style. The main components are wrestling, judo & Brazilian jiu jitsu, boxing & Muay Thai. Other prominent disciplines are Karate, Taekwondo & traditional kickboxing.
The art form of MMA allows both striking & grappling on the ground or standing.
We offer Youth MMA classes. Please note that the youth classes are for ages 8 and up.
In Point Sparring, the fight gets interrupted after every successful hit and competitors move back to their starting position. In a way it is similar to Olympic fencing. During the short interruption, the three referees involved evaluate the previous action. The winner is the competitor with the highest total score at the end of the fight.
In Continuous Sparring, hits are evaluated by referees throughout the match. The winner is the competitor with the highest total score at the end of the fight.
All students participating in Sparring classes must have protective equipment appropriate for their chosen style.
Point Sparring requires a 5 Elements Karate uniform, headgear, point sparring gloves/or boxing gloves, mouthguard, cup, shin pads and foot gear.
Continuous Sparring requires a 5 Elements Karate uniform or 5 Elements Muay Thai uniform, headgear, boxing gloves, handwraps, mouthguard, cup, and shin pands and foot gear, or shinguards.

It covers the basics of sport karate and kickboxing and point fighting techniques. Classes include basic drills, conditioning for sparring, rules for tournaments and a breakdown of the point fighting system. This is a great way to incorporate techniques learned in class and prepare for tournaments.
Continuous Competitive Sparring
This class is designed for students with both Karate and Muay Thai experience, interested in competition. Classes include drills, conditioning, and rules for tournaments. This is a great way to learn to incorporate techniques from other classes and prepare for tournaments.
Karate Weapons classes are available to students who have been in the general Karate program for 3+ months. The first Tuesday of every month, Weapons classes will focus on nunchuks, while bo staff will be used throughout the rest of the month.
All students participating in Weapons classes must have their own nunchuks (available at the front desk) and/or bo staff (available for order through Sensei Jordan). All students participating in karate programs must have a white jacket and black pants 5 Elements uniform, which is available for purchase ($94.50) at the front desk.
Weapons deals with the basics of bo staff and nunchuk use (Nunchuck class is the first Tuesday of the month). Students will learn how to hold both types of weapons and how to strike with them. This class is designed for students who are interested in competing in tournaments or competitions although participation in tournaments are not mandatory. Participants in this class MUST have a karate background prior to taking this class with a minimum level of green belt (or by invitation).
Muay Thai is Thai kickboxing, also known as the Art of the Eight Limbs. Muay Thai is primarily a stand-up martial art that utilizes fist, elbow, knee and foot strikes as well as clinching techniques. Popular with MMA fighters, Muay Thai would be considered part of a fighter’s 'striking game.' Known for being great for conditioning as well, Muay Thai is a great martial art to practice whether you are interested in getting in shape or competing.
All students participating in muay thai programs must have muay thai shorts and a 5 Elements tshirt.
Required protective equipment includes; handwraps, mouthguard, cup, headgear, boxing gloves and shinguards. All equipment can be purchased at the front desk and is 20% off when purchased all at once.
Youth Muay Thai
Designed for students aged approx. 7-12, this program serves as an introduction for Muay Thai. Students will enjoy basic exercises and learn the basics of Muay Thai, such as proper fighting stance, shadow boxing, proper movement and balance, how to defend, kicking and punching techniques . Exercises and drills will be done on punching bags or target bags and with partners holding target pads.
Intermediate Youth Muay Thai
This class is for children with a firm foundation in Muay Thai basics. They will practice cardio training as well as different combinations, drills and sparring to help them develop their skills and advance to the next level. Aged 10+ or by invitation.
Open Adult Muay Thai
Intended for students aged approx. 13 and up, this program serves as a foundation for learning Muay Thai. Class consists of basic warm-up exercises meant to help condition and get one accustomed to practicing Muay Thai. Students will learn the fundamentals of Muay Thai (proper fighting stance, how to shadow box, footwork and how to kick, punch and use knees) and be introduced to basic punching and kicking combinations as well as how to defend. Exercises and drills are done on punching bags/target bags and with partners using Thai pads. Sparring may happen on occasion and is optional in this class.
Intermediate/Advanced Adult Muay Thai
Students must have prior approval from an instructor to participate in this class. This class introduces advanced techniques and combinations and builds upon what is taught in the Beginner/Intermediate classes. Exercises and drills are done on punching bags and with partners holding Thai pads. Sparring is involved in this class.
Known as “the gentle art”, Brazilian Jiujitsu (or BJJ) originated in Japan and was perfected in Brazil. A form of self defense that is grappling-based, BJJ focuses on the concept of being able to defend yourself against a larger assailant by using proper technique and leverage and by utilizing joint locks and choke holds. Popularized in MMA and the UFC, BJJ is what one can use when the fight “goes to the ground” and is a great practical martial art for people who are looking for self defense.
Brazilian Jiujitsu is also great for being a full body workout — techniques incorporate the whole body and can help improve flexibility, balance and coordination.
All students participating in 5 Elements Brazilian Jiujitsu programs must have a BJJ gi, different from a karate gi and mouthguard . 5 Elements does not offer no-gi Braziian jiu jitsu at this time. Gis can be ordered at the front desk.
Youth Brazilian Jiujitsu
Ages approx. 7-12 (exceptions can be made for younger students based on an instructor assessment.) Students will be introduced to the basics of Brazilian Jiujitsu and learn basic movements, guards, sweeps and submissions in BJJ.
Beginner Youth Brazilian Jiujitsu
For children just starting on their jiujitsu journey, this class focuses on showing them the basic techniques of grappling, rolling, defence techniques and different holds in a safe environment. They will be introduced to jiujitsu sparring and shown the fundamentals of the sport.
Intermediate Youth Brazilian Jiujitsu
Designed to kids with grey belt and above (or by invitation) this class looks to build on their BJJ foundations to expand and hone their jiujitsu skills.
Ages approx. 13-Adult. Students will be instructed in Brazilian Jiujitsu and learn movements, guards, sweeps and submissions in partnered drills and exercises, as well as in rolling sessions at the end of class.
All students participating in Boxing classes must have a 5 Elements tshirt, boxing gloves, cup and mouthguard.
This class is intended for students ages approx. 6-14, and focuses on learning technique through shadow-boxing, working on the heavy bags, and conditioning.
This class, for children aged 10-15, focuses on learning technique through shadow-boxing, working with hand targets, heavy bags, shields, and conditioning. There is a focus on developing solid footwork, learning solid punching technique and proper combinations. A great overall body workout, combining boosting of confidence and self protection with the technical aspects of boxing.
This class is intended for students ages approx. 14-Adult, with a focus on developing solid footwork, learning solid punching technique and proper combinations. A great general workout while also focusing on the technical aspects of boxing, there is something for just about everyone in this class.
