Known as “the gentle art”, Brazilian Jiujitsu (or BJJ) originated in Japan and was perfected in Brazil. A form of self defense that is grappling-based, BJJ focuses on the concept of being able to defend yourself against a larger assailant by using proper technique and leverage and by utilizing joint locks and choke holds. Popularized in MMA and the UFC, BJJ is what one can use when the fight “goes to the ground” and is a great practical martial art for people who are looking for self defense.
Brazilian Jiujitsu is also great for being a full body workout — techniques incorporate the whole body and can help improve flexibility, balance and coordination.
All students participating in 5 Elements Brazilian Jiujitsu programs must have a BJJ gi, different from a karate gi and mouthguard . 5 Elements does not offer no-gi Braziian jiu jitsu at this time. Gis can be ordered at the front desk.
